For Karakter’s side table, Swiss design duo Dominic Plueer and Olivier Smitt make a striking turn by placing the 2 base trestles at right angles instead of the usual side-by-side. Repeating the double motif, it has a thick slab tabletop, broken up by a pair of bulbous curves on the underside where the rigid trestles are joined. Intriguing from any view, No. 2’s stark profile rendered in black stained and lacquered wood challenges typical notions of shape, form and function.
